By using open licenses, the granting of usage rights can be documented in a comprehensible manner, thus facilitating the subsequent (re-)use of the corresponding resources.

Creative Commons Licenses

Creative Commons licenses are internationally usable, machine-readable, and the standard for open publishing.

Creative Commons licenses allow creators to specify the ways in which others may reuse their works. The CC licenses offer an alternative to the "All rights reserved" in classic copyright law.

For this purpose, the organization Creative Commons has developed ready-made license agreements that are regularly updated and adapted. They consist of modules with which authors can, for example, permit the use of their research articles as long as they are named as authors. Additional restrictions can also be named, such as that the work may not be edited or that only non-commercial uses are permitted.
