Shaping the EOSC Landscape: Helmholtz Contributions and Future Horizons
March 13, 2026, 09:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Background
The Helmholtz Office Brussels and the Helmholtz Open Science Office regularly host online meetings to provide updates on EOSC-related activities within the Association. The latest forum took place on March 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CET. The event marked a significant milestone in Helmholtz’s engagement with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), as the 2024–2026 Task Force cycle drew to a close.
We showcased the impact and progress made to date. Building on these results, the forum looked to the future, providing updates on new EOSC projects and receiving a first-hand report on the recently concluded EOSC-A membership consultations. This report highlighted Helmholtz’s specific contributions and strategic reflections on the post-2027 landscape. Furthermore, we explored the implementation of the EOSC Node Germany. The session concluded with an open discussion to align Helmholtz’s internal progress with the rapidly evolving European landscape.

Abstract of the report:
This report documents the Helmholtz Open Science Forum "Shaping the EOSC Landscape: Helmholtz Contributions and Future Horizons", held online on March 13, 2026. Jointly organized by the Helmholtz Office Brussels and the Helmholtz Open Science Office, the event continued a series of Helmholtz-wide EOSC forums (details of which are available on the Helmholtz Open Science Office website).
The forum marked a significant milestone as the 2024–2026 Task Force cycle concluded, showcasing the impact and progress of Helmholtz’s engagement to date. The program featured comprehensive updates on the work of the concluding task forces and newly launched EOSC projects. A central highlight was a first-hand report on the recently finalized EOSC-A membership consultations, which emphasized Helmholtz’s strategic reflections on the post- 2027 landscape and the current implementation status of the EOSC Node | Germany.
The subsequent discussion underlined that Helmholtz’s future role within the EOSC depends on aligning internal progress with the rapidly evolving European landscape. Key takeaways highlighted the importance of fostering digital sovereignty, the strategic use of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs), and the necessity of maintaining robust, interconnected infrastructures between the NFDI and international partners.
Designed as an informal meeting to foster open exchange, the session included both slidesupported presentations and brief oral updates. This report is intended to provide an overview of the key discussion points and thematic priorities rather than a verbatim transcript of the Forum.
