2nd NFDI Forum

Helmholtz in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), 08 December 2021, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

With the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), the German federal and state governments are pursuing the goal of systematically making research data resources accessible in accordance with FAIR principles, so that they can be made available to third parties. The NFDI is established as a network of consortia over a period of three years in three successive funding phases, starting in 2019.

To promote dialogue on the NFDI at Helmholtz, the Helmholtz Open Science Office hosted a second digital Helmholtz Open Science Forum, "Helmholtz in the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)", on December 08, 2021, from 10 am to 3 pm.

The event is the second in a series of Helmholtz Open Science Forums on the topic of National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). A first event was held in May 2021 (see report, only in German).

Background

The Helmholtz Centers conduct data-intensive research. Research with complex scientific-technical infrastructures, such as particle accelerators, satellites or research ships and aircraft, produces a high volume of digital research data. Thus, the Helmholtz Association's research infrastructures make it the natural place for specialist expertise in the topic area of "Open Research Data - Access to and reuse of research data".

Numerous NFDI consortia are realized with substantial Helmholtz participation and Helmholtz Centers are also actively involved in the realization of the EOSC.

The event focussed on the following aspects:

  • Report from the NFDI Directorate on current developments
  • Contribution from Helmholtz on cross-cutting services
  • Helmholtz in the NFDI association structure
  • EOSC and NFDI
