Position paper by the Helmholtz Open Science Office about the Importance of Libraries (in German)
On the occasion of Germany's Library Day (Tag der Bibliotheken), the Helmholtz Open Science Office takes a stand on the importance of academic libraries. They are fundamental, yet they are often only noticed when they fail to function or have been cut. To ensure that science carries out open research, upholds good scientific practice, and continues to operate in a sovereign, free and critical manner, independent of profit-driven interests, academic libraries must be strengthened and supported in maintaining and expanding their offerings and services. Academic libraries are essential to sovereign and open science.
